Sir Thomas Hiley was elected to the Queensland Parliament in 1944 as Member for Logan which he represented for 14 years. He became leader of the Queensland People's Party in 1948. In 1949, this party merged with the Liberal Party. He was MLA for Coorparoo from 1950-1960 and served as MLA for Chatsworth from 1960 until his retirement in 1966.
